our amazing amish neighbors

We are lucky enough to be surrounded on almost all sides by the Amish. Our first day here they brought us life saving bread, later strawberries! To be sure they are people like you and me, but I don't know many other people who get up earlier than I do to milk cows...

and they do it by hand. We decided to let the guy from down the road hay our fields on shares. When we came the pasture/hay was over our knees and we knew something had to be done. David wanted to do it and so we agreed. We also agreed to let him plant the contour strips we have in corn. No sprays we said, but he could use some fertilizer if he needed to since it was late... So there's that. It was amazing to watch them go right at it. Him and his boys, and his wife did plenty of the driving too. It's amazing to watch people work horses and I hope someday we can too. Yesterday we went to an Amish auction, it was great. We enjoyed some homemade ice cream and just when Aaron was getting ready to bid on a joiner I asked him "how do you turn it on?" good question....
